The San Diego Saints and the La Jolla Jaguars are excited to announce an Alliance between our two youth hockey programs for the upcoming Fall 2009/2010 travel and tournament season.

Our programs are able to align due to a shared philosophy for teaching youth hockey in San Diego. Our professional coaches will teach the sport in an exciting, high tempo and fun atmosphere where the fundamentals of hockey will be developed through self-discipline and respect for coaches, opponents, referees and parents.

Youth tournament and travel hockey are for players that are interested in playing on a competitive team. In San Diego, our recreational Metro league is designed for beginner hockey players learning to master the basic skills. Travel and tournament teams will continue to improve the basic skills of the player through team concepts and with players at or near the same ability.

Tournament team players will continue to play in the Metro league throughout the fall and winter season. In addition these select players will play in 4 tournaments in Southern California during holiday weekends. The holiday weekends include Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Martin Luther King Day and Easter Weekend. Additional tournaments weekends can be scheduled.  Tournament teams will have a half or full sheet practice each week.

Travel teams will play half of their games at our home rinks either at the Kroc Center or UTC. The other half of the games will be played at rinks located in Orange County, Riverside County and Los Angeles County. There is approximately 10 home and 10 away games a season. Each travel team has its own practice time of one full sheet of ice and in addition one half-ice practice each week. Practice times vary by team. There are also team standings, player’s statistics, playoffs and state championships for qualifying teams. Travel teams may also decide to play in several tournaments throughout the season. The season starts on September 2009 and ends in February/March 2010. Mite Tournament Hockey

The San Diego Hockey Alliance will be hosting tryouts to field competitive tournament team(s) for the Fall 2009 season. The ages for the Mite tournament team are birth years 2001 and younger. Team(s) will be assessed as to their level of play after tryouts.

The ages for the PeeWee travel and tournament team(s) are Birth Years 1997 and 1998. The Saints will be hosting the PeeWee A Travel team and the Jaguars will host the PeeWee B Travel or tournament team(s).
